Misc Projects: Garage Organization and Baby Girl Quilt

I've been working on a few things lately. Little odds and ends, nothing big. I had two baby shower gifts to work-on and some housekeeping projects too--like organizing my garage and workbench. This makes all the difference. I can actually find things out there!

Here is the “before” pic right after I mounted the pegboard to the wall (What a mess!):
I love pegboard, don't you? There are so many accessories you can use on it and it keeps things so organized yet visible. I purchased this large piece for only $5 at the Habitat Store...a great find.It’s not perfect yet, but I got a great start on that corner!

I posted a couple of weeks ago that I had "gone sewin'" and I couldn't post pics because they were gifts...well, here 's one of them:
A custom quilt for my friend’s baby girl, Addelyn.  I cut and stitched 9” squares for the outside (5 sq x 7 sq) frame and then a piece of neutral cotton for the center.
For the back of the quilt I wanted a solid piece of fabric.  I learned a little trick years ago that always comes in handy for this:  use a sheet!  This is an inexpensive way to get a large piece of fabric and sheets come in a big variety of colors and patterns now. I got this chocolate brown twin flat sheet for $5 at Wal-Mart and can probably get two baby-size quilt backs out of it.
I used a large piece of pale pink flannel instead of traditional batting…because I wanted to make the edges like a rag quilt.
I embroidered her name on the center fabric in coordinating colors.
Then, I free-handed a couple of flowers with stems and leaves.  I cut these out of different fabrics and appliqued them to the center piece.
I tie-quilted with some yarn and clipped the quilt edges for a “ragged” look after washing.
I gave it to my friend last week just a few days before Miss Addelyn arrived.
