Fall Decor

“The days may not be so bright and balmy—yet the quiet and melancholy that linger around them is fraught with glory. Over everything connected with autumn there lingers some golden spell—some unseen influence that penetrates the soul with its mysterious power.” ~Northern AdvocateMy Fall Ladder closeupThe smell of cinnamon and nutmeg, pumpkin desserts, and turkey in the oven…that little bit of crisp in the air and cooler mornings…the beautiful colors everywhere! I love Fall, don’t you?  Here in South Texas, we really don’t get to experience the beauty of the foliage changes like some of you do, but it is still a lovely time of year and I love to decorate with the colors of the season.

Last weekend, with my son’s help, we got our Fall decorations up!  And, I took a bunch of pics to share with you all…

First, we got everything out…it was all over the dining area!  But, it wasn’t quite enough stuff, so Target Dollar Spot to the rescue!  Nothing over $2.50!Dollar Spot Fall Finds
I wanted to use that old wooden ladder I purchased from Old is Better Than New awhile back.  It is now in the corner of the living room and creates a fun, Fall look in front of the windows.  I think it is my favorite this year!My Fall LadderThe leaves are made of tissue paper and were something I found last year at Dollar Tree.  Using a black permanent marker, I simply wrote the letters on the leaves.  They are strung on a piece of jute and tied to the ladder.  A clothespin was used to attach the little piece of brown, stamped paper (“Give”) to the jute.My Fall Ladder CloseupIn my entry nook, I simply added fall foliage and berries to some of my glass vases.  A few have a rafia bow too. My Fall Entry Nook A couple of pumpkins, a sprinkling of fall, sparkle filler, a new plum-colored candle, Indian corn, and a jar filled with dried goods completes the look.Entry Nook CloseupIn case you are wondering, those are red kidney beans, unpopped popcorn kernels, split peas, white kidney beans, and pinto beans in the jar.My Fall Entry benchAcross from the nook, the entry bench (made out of two chairs) got a scarecrow friend.  A new flower arrangement in my Pottery Barn clearance basket looks cute in the corner with a white pumpkin.
The dining table got a simple centerpiece of leaves, gourds, acorns, and candles. My Fall centerpieceAn Autumn watercolor that I normally keep in my bedroom was moved to the the entertainment center; along with a few springs of fall leaves and my Pilgrim and Indian statues.  My Fall WatercolorThis “Blessings” sign was a cool find last year at a Marshall’s store…couldn’t pass it up!Fall Blessings signThe buffet got a Fall update with more sparkle filler, fall trays, leaves, and a new chalk message on my chalkboard menu tray.Chalkboard Menu TrayMy rebar tree was adorned with fall foliage using little pieces of brown ribbon.Fall leaves with ribbonFall buffet decorFall Buffet Decor 2And, last but not least, my front porch…a Fall Welcome to all!Fall wreath on front door 2012Fall gourdsLast years’ wreath got a little update with corn husks.  And, the hanging planter is now holding assorted mini gourds.Welcome Fall PorchA “Welcome” banner made with tissue paper leaves and jute (same as the one on my ladder inside) is strung across the shelves.Front porch chair Fallfront porch fall decorThe blue chair and Scripture sign stayed in place, but a few mums, a dried corn stalk, and a couple of pumpkins make it all look like Fall! Our Fall Front Porch 2012

Happy Fall Y’all!
